Some Short Facts about Haiti

• Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

• Haiti is scheduled to have elections on November 28th. There are 12 candidates and some are now asking for a postponement.

• Haiti is experiencing the first major cholera outbreak ever on their island.  There are rumors that it was UN troops who first contaminated water.  

• Om January 12, 2010 Haiti experienced a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that killed 300,000 people and displaced over a million.  Over half of the US households gave money to help support the relief effort.  The kids in Ghana that my mom volunteers with, also collected donations for the kids in Haiti.  

• Haiti weather forecast for this week is high's in the low 90's and lows in the 70's - quite bearable.
